About
MOPHUTHI MATSOSO DEVELOPMENT TRUST
Sustainable Agriculture, Food Security & Rural Development Partnerships | Kingdom of Lesotho
The Mophuthi Matsoso Development Trust, founded by prominent African businesswoman and entrepreneur Dr. Louisa Mojela, is dedicated to supporting rural communities in Lesotho through sustainable development, economic empowerment and community-focused initiatives.
The Trust's work reflects the importance of agriculture, food security, women's economic participation and inclusive rural development in creating sustainable livelihoods and strengthening local economies.
Through Afrika Tage Wien, we aim to facilitate connections between the Trust and Austrian and European organisations interested in exploring meaningful cooperation in agriculture, innovation, investment and sustainable development.
Partnership Opportunities
We are interested in identifying European partners whose expertise, technologies and resources could contribute to agricultural and rural development initiatives in Lesotho.
Potential areas of cooperation include:
Sustainable Agriculture & Food Security
Partnerships supporting agricultural productivity, climate-resilient farming, improved food production and long-term food security.
Agricultural Technology & Innovation
Cooperation with European agritech companies, equipment suppliers and technical experts to explore appropriate farming technologies, irrigation solutions, mechanisation and agricultural training.
Women's Economic Empowerment
Initiatives that strengthen women's participation in agriculture, entrepreneurship, skills development and rural economic activities.
Agricultural Value Chains & Market Development
Opportunities to explore food processing, storage, packaging, distribution, market access and value addition for agricultural products.
Development Finance & Impact Partnerships
Engagement with development-finance institutions, foundations, impact investors and organisations supporting sustainable agriculture and community development.
These areas represent potential partnership themes, with specific project requirements and cooperation arrangements to be agreed with the Trust.
Why Lesotho?
Agriculture plays an important role in Lesotho's rural economy and community livelihoods.
At the same time, the sector faces challenges relating to climate variability, agricultural productivity, infrastructure, access to technology and market development.
Cooperation between African community development organisations and European businesses, institutions and investors can help create practical solutions that strengthen food security, improve livelihoods and support inclusive economic growth.
