About

Gambia Wildlife & Cultural Tours is a specialised tour operator offering scientifically guided field expeditions for researchers, photographers, TV teams, universities, students and nature enthusiasts seeking access to The Gambia beyond conventional tourism routes.

Our core expertise lies in biogeography, tropical field biology, geobotany, phytogeography, wildlife ecology, archaeology, anthropology and West African history. Expeditions are developed and accompanied by professional field scientists, academic specialists and experienced guides who combine scientific knowledge with detailed local expertise.

We organise botanical and wildlife expeditions into rarely visited habitats, including coastal thicket forests, dune woodlands, gallery forests, mangrove systems, wetlands and the transition zones between forest and savannah. Depending on the research or photographic objective, fieldwork can be conducted on foot, by 4×4 vehicle, riverboat, canoe or private aircraft. Possible areas of focus include plant communities, habitat distribution, birdlife, primates, hippos, antelopes, crocodiles and other West African fauna.

Our cultural and historical programmes provide academically grounded access to archaeological sites, sacred places, traditional communities and more than 90 ancient Senegambian stone-circle sites—not only the commonly visited locations. Specialist-led excursions can also examine the regional history of slavery and the transatlantic slave trade, ethnic and religious traditions, settlement history and the cultural development of Senegambia.

Rather than offering standard sightseeing packages, we design each expedition around the specific objectives of the participants. For photographers, this includes location scouting, access planning, local fixing, transport and logistical support. For researchers and academic institutions, we can assist with field preparation, local contacts, site access and the practical organisation of expeditions. We also support international television and documentary productions requiring reliable local expertise and scientifically accurate background information.

Our team maintains links with local communities, conservation initiatives, academic specialists and relevant Gambian institutions. Part of our revenue supports habitat conservation, environmental initiatives and community-based heritage preservation. Our role is to serve as a bridge between international researchers, photographers and media teams and the landscapes, knowledge and people of The Gambia—providing scientifically sound, locally grounded and professionally organised field experiences.
